Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Accepting manuscripts on a rolling basis

JCSCORE is looking for manuscripts with research in the following content areas: qualitative and quantitative research, assessment and evaluation, pedagogies, critical theory, policy, theory to praxis, ethnic studies, situational efforts at transformation, social identities, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ), intergroup dialogue and facilitation, environment, sustainability and environmental justice, student leadership, organizing and coalition building, science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), body arts, visual arts and performing arts, collegiate athletics, health sciences, and innovative ideas for research in race and ethnicity, in higher education.

Manuscripts must include an abstract and should not exceed 30 double-spaced pages total, including references, figure(s) and table(s), and should conform to APA 7th Edition guidelines.

Please include a letter to the editors with your submission explaining how your work contributes to the mission and scope of JCSCORE and that your manuscript is not considered for publication in any other journal. All documents should be submitted as a word document. 

The editor(s) will perform an initial review of all submitted manuscripts and may reject papers that are clearly outside of the scope of the journal. Manuscripts within the scope will be sent to at least two reviewers.  JCSCORE uses a double anonymous review process for peer-reviewed submissions. The authors' and reviewers' identities are not revealed to each other at any point of the review process. All reviews are fully anonymous. 

In order to lower barriers to publication for authors, JCSCORE does not charge submissions or any other form of author fees. All editor(s), reviewers and authors work is free/volunteer labor and is supported by OU Libraries.

Preparing your Paper

1. Your original paper should include the following elements: title page (with authors’ identifying information removed); abstract (50-250 words); 3-5 keywords; main text introduction, materials and methods, findings/results, discussion; acknowledgments; references; appendices (as appropriate); table(s) with caption(s); figure(s) (as appropriate)

2. Letter to the editor

3. Cover Page should include all authors’ identifying information; full name and affiliation; one author should be identified as the corresponding author; include all authors on the order as they should be listed for publication

4. Table(s) and figure(s) should be uploaded on individual files

Submission declaration

The Author warrants the following regarding the Article being submitted for publication:

1. The Article is the author’s original work;

2. The author has the full power and authority to make this agreement;

3. The Article does not contain any statements or information that are intentionally misleading or inaccurate;

4. The Article has not been previously published in any form;

5. The Author’s Article does not infringe on any intellectual property rights, nor violate any proprietary rights, nor contain any obscene, defamatory or libelous matter, nor invade the privacy of any person;

6. That if the article or any material within the article, such as artwork, has been previously published, permission has been obtained to reproduce such material in JCSCORE, and in any subsequent reuse or license of the article/material, by the Publishers, including electronic reuse.

7. The Article is not being considered for publication elsewhere in any form and will not be submitted for such consideration if published in JCSCORE.

8. Nothing in the Article infringes any duty of confidentiality which the Contractor may owe to another party or violates any contract, express or implied, that the Contractor may have entered into. If applicable, the institution where the Author worked on the Article has authorized publication.

9. Potential and/or relevant competing financial or other interests that might be affected by publication of the Article have been disclosed to the appropriate JCSCORE journal editor.

10. Publication of the Article is approved by all authors and if accepted for publication, it will not be published or posted elsewhere regardless of the format, in English or in any other language, until after publication in JCSCORE. If publication prior to JSCORE publication is required, email jcscore@ou.edu for permissions.
