Main Article Content
Abstract
It is with much sadness, I report the passing of our colleague and my dear friend, Dr. Julia Hislop. After a long illness with breast cancer, Julia died at the age of 52 on October 11, 2014 in Norfolk, VA. In support of the Journal of Forensic Social Work, Julia was initially a reviewer and then served on the editorial board from 2012 to 2014. Julia received a BA in Psychology from the University of Michigan, a Master’s degree from California State University, and a PhD from the California School of Professional Psychology. Throughout her career as a licensed clinical psychologist, her primary focus was on children and adolescents, most recently working with the Richmond Department of Juvenile Justice and the Norfolk Department of Social Services. Julia previously worked as an adjunct faculty at St. Leo’s and Old Dominion Universities, as well as a forensic evaluator in children’s advocacy and residential centers. As a forensic psychologist, Julia was a nationally recognized authority on female sex offenders. In addition to authoring a variety of books, book chapters, and professional papers, she was featured on Larry King Live, CNN, and CBS as an expert on the subject. For all her professional accomplishments, Julia will be missed most for her generous heart and wicked sense of humor, which she kept even in her last days.
