Abstract

Using racial and gender dissonance to provoke protestation, this photographic essay defiantly announces Christie's Asianness. Rather than reinforcing racial and gender stereotypes surrounding Asian/Asian American women, this series of images defies the cultural boundaries of Asianness within the U.S. and the gendered expectations of Asian/Asian American women that accompany them.
